NEXT DESTINATION: THE HANGING GARDENS OF BABYLON (IRAQ)

The Hanging Gardens of Babylon (also known as the Hanging Gardens of Semiramis) and the walls of Babylon were considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World, and both were allegedly built by Nebuchadnezzar around 600 BC (in modern Iraq) but it is doubtful if it really existed físicamente.Los Hanging Gardens have been extensively documented by historians Greeks as Strabo and Diodorus Siculus, yet there is little evidence of its existence, apart from circumstantial evidence found in excavations in the palace of Babylon. According to the story, the king of Babylon at that time, Nebuchadnezzar II, the immensity was sad to see that his wife, a princess meda, bred among mountains and forests, it felt bad to live in a city as flat as Babylon. Then Nebuchadnezzar ordered the construction of the largest garden ever built by man to imitate the shape and appearance of a mountain. He created a step pyramid (like the Maya) which planted lush palm trees, shrubs, flowers and all kinds of plants. Addition engineered a water wheel to irrigate the gardens.

The splendor of the Hanging Gardens was immense. The queen was happy, and consequently also the king and the people.

But when the city fell into decline and wars, was burned. Gardens are also burnt, and when Alexander the Great reached Babylon, there were only ashes of the once beautiful city. Today, only the remains and ruins on the Euphrates.

THE 7 WONDERS OF THE WORLD. ORIGIN AND HISTORY

The classic list is based on a short poem by Antipater of Sidon to ( 125 BC) or Antipater of Thessalonica (between 20 BC and 20 AD) in which the poet praises the Seven Wonders of the World. This list originally mentioned the Ishtar Gate on the walls of Babylon instead of the Lighthouse of Alexandria. Modifications made after the replacement.

However, keep references to other previous lists by the historian Herodotus , or engineer Philo of Byzantium , although his writings have not survived, except as references. In

listings are the Hanging Gardens of Babylon are not, in her shoes the walls of the city.

Related to the list itself often raises the issue of why Seven and not another number. There is no definitive answer, but the seventh was for the Greeks and also for parts of his empire a perfect number. Seven are the times he had to forgive, as the Hebrew and interpretation of Old Testament , seven deadly sins were after, and so on.

the same way all are human constructions and that the Greeks could admire [1] . Does not contain any natural wonder or any debris, and this was majestic. In part that's why we talk about one eighth wonder of the world: the tower of Babel the Babylonian ziggurat, but this building was in ruins when they arrived the soldiers of Alexander the Great and the list of wonders data 200 years later. But the possibility of a wonder more has helped coin the phrase Eighth Wonder of the World to refer to all human work that is ahead of its time.
