Cairo is the capital of Egypt and the largest city in the Middle East. As such Cairo is only about 1.000 years, but parts of the metropolis dating back to pharaonic times. The Sphinx and the pyramids of Giza for example, are evidence of ancient Egyptian civilization around the Nile River in Egypt first Muslim settlement was Al-Fustat, now part of Old Cairo.
